On this episode of Ask This Old House, the team tackles two different projects – a cold water bathtub installation and a cornhole board set.
First up, host Kevin O'Connor meets with homeowner Craig to help him install a Japanese-style cold water bathtub in his backyard. Kevin and plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey work together to dig a hole for the tub and connect the water and drainage pipes. Along the way, they encounter some unexpected challenges such as an improperly sized pipe and a stubborn rock, but they persevere and ultimately get the job done. Craig and his wife are thrilled with their new tub and can't wait to use it.
Next, landscape contractor Jenn Nawada is on hand to help a family build their own cornhole set. Jenn shows them how to cut and assemble the wood pieces and then paints them with a custom design. The family is excited to have a new game to play outside and the colorful set adds a fun touch to their backyard.
Meanwhile, back in the workshop, Kevin meets with metalworker Chris Fafalios to learn how to make a metal cornhole set. Chris demonstrates the process of welding and cutting the metal pieces and shows Kevin how to paint them for a finished look.
Finally, Tom Silva takes on a challenge of his own – fixing a squeaky wood floor in a homeowner's bedroom. Tom explains the reasons why floors can squeak and demonstrates how to fix the problem by screwing the subfloor and joists together. The homeowner is thrilled with the result and can finally sleep soundly without being disturbed by a squeaky floor.
