In season 18 episode 2 of Ask This Old House, the team take on two projects - creating a nursery and building a record stand.

Host Kevin O'Connor visits a young couple who are expecting their first child and want to create a nursery. Kevin meets with interior designer Taniya Nayak who has some great tips for creating a stylish and practical nursery. She suggests using a neutral color palette which can be easily updated as the child grows and to create different zones within the room such as a feeding area and a changing area. Taniya also talks about the importance of lighting and how to create a calming atmosphere in the room. Kevin then works with carpenter Nathan Gilbert to create a custom-built storage solution for the room. They build a built-in bookcase with adjustable shelves and storage drawers, which can be used to hold toys, books, and other nursery essentials.

In the second project, Kevin meets with woodworking expert Tom Silva to create a record stand. Tom shows Kevin how to make a sleek and modern stand that can store records and a record player. He uses a combination of hardwood and plywood to create the stand and shows Kevin how to use a router to create perfect joints. Tom also demonstrates how to use a dado blade to create perfectly sized grooves for the records to sit in. Once the construction is complete, Tom and Kevin stain the stand with a dark walnut color to give it a sleek and stylish look.

Back in the workshop, Kevin and master electrician Scott Caron discuss adding a 240-volt electric car charger to a home. Scott explains the different types of chargers available and how to determine which one is best for a particular home. He also demonstrates the installation process and how to safely connect it to an existing electrical system.

Finally, Kevin and plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey take a trip to a small town in Connecticut to investigate a mysterious and unusual home heating system. The system consists of a wood-burning stove in the basement connected to an elaborate network of pipes that heat water and circulate it throughout the house. Richard explains how the system works and points out some of its unique features such as a coil that heats water for the shower.

Overall, this episode of Ask This Old House features a range of inspiring and practical projects that viewers can replicate in their own homes. From creating a stylish and functional nursery to building a sleek record stand, viewers will learn new skills and gain valuable insights from the show's team of experts.
