Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 episode 3, titled "Apparently Dead", sees the continued adventures of everyone's favorite chainsaw-wielding, boomstick-carrying, Ash Williams. After a brief appearance in a strip club last episode, "Apparently Dead" picks up with Ash teaming up with Kelly and Pablo to head to Ash's hometown of Elk Grove. But before they can even get there, they have to survive a gauntlet of Deadites that have followed them out of the nightclub.
The episode begins with Kelly, Pablo, and Ash driving down the highway with a horde of rampaging Deadites hot on their heels. The trio works together to fight off the demonic creatures using an eclectic mix of weapons, including Kelly's trusty shotgun, Pablo's mystical dagger, and Ash's chainsaw hand. After a harrowing chase scene, the group manages to escape the Deadites and continue on their journey to Elk Grove.
Once they arrive in Elk Grove, they're met with hostility and skepticism from the townspeople, who haven't forgotten Ash's past, including his involvement in the gruesome murders in the cabin from the original Evil Dead film. But Ash is undeterred and sets out to find out what caused the Deadite outbreak in the town.
Meanwhile, Pablo bonds with the adorable Brandy Barr, who has dreams of becoming a veterinarian and who just so happens to be Ash's estranged daughter. Despite her initial skepticism towards Ash, Brandy comes to learn that there's more to her father than his less-than-stellar reputation.
The main mystery of the episode revolves around why seemingly dead people are coming back to life in Elk Grove, and whether or not someone is intentionally summoning the Deadites. As Ash and the gang follow the clues and investigate, they find themselves in a bizarre and dangerous situation, one that they might not escape alive.
The episode's main strength lies in its humor and action, with plenty of blood-spattered, zombie-bashing sequences that are sure to please fans of the franchise. However, there's also a sense of heart and emotional depth to the episode, particularly in the scenes between Ash and Brandy.
Overall, "Apparently Dead" is a fast-paced, funny, and thrilling episode that continues to push the Ash vs Evil Dead story forward. With great performances from Bruce Campbell, Ray Santiago, and Dana DeLorenzo, as well as a compelling new addition to the cast in Arielle Carver-O'Neill, the episode is a standout in an already great season.
