Ginger and her classmates at Lucky Junior High School are in for a surprise when the school's nurses go on strike in As Told By Ginger season 2 episode 9, "Nurses Strike."
As soon as the strike is announced, chaos ensues in the school. Students are falling ill left and right, and without the nurses to take care of them, panic sets in. Ginger's mother, a nurse herself, is torn between her loyalty to her fellow nurses and her responsibilities as a parent. Meanwhile, Ginger's friend Dodie uses the strike as a way to get out of gym class, pretending to be sick.
The principal is left in charge of the school's medical needs, but he proves to be incompetent, unable to handle even the most basic first aid situations. The situation is made worse when he decides to sell expired medicine to the students.
Ginger comes up with a plan to end the strike and get the nurses back to work. She organizes a student walk-out, protesting the school's neglect of its students' health. The protest leads to a confrontation between the students and the principal, but ultimately the nurses agree to return to work under the condition that they receive better pay and working conditions.
In the end, the school is back to normal and the students are healthy once again. Ginger learns the importance of standing up for what's right, even if it means going against authority.
