As Time Goes By is a British romantic sitcom that follows the story of two former lovers, Jean and Lionel, who reunite after several decades apart when a letter they sent to each other was lost in the mail. Season 7 of the show features Jean and Lionel adjusting to married life and navigating their way through new challenges. Episode 2, titled "An Old Flame," begins with Jean receiving a phone call from a man named Tony. Tony is an old flame of Jean's from many years ago, and he is passing through town and would like to see her.
Jean is hesitant at first, not wanting to upset Lionel, but eventually she agrees to meet Tony for lunch. Meanwhile, Lionel is busy with his own set of problems. His agent, Alistair, is pressuring him to write a new script, but Lionel is struggling with writer's block.
At lunch, Tony and Jean catch up on old times and reminisce about their past relationship. Tony is charming and flirtatious, and Jean finds herself feeling nostalgic for their romantic moments together. However, she soon realizes that Tony hasn't changed much over the years and still has a wandering eye for other women.
Back at home, Lionel is increasingly frustrated with his inability to write. He seeks guidance from Sandy, the daughter of his old friend Harry, who is staying with them for a few days. Sandy is a successful writer and offers Lionel some tips and encouragement. Lionel takes her advice and is finally able to break through his writer's block and start writing again.
As the day progresses, Jean begins to see Tony's true colors and realizes that he is not the man she thought he was. She tells him that she is happily married to Lionel and that she has no desire to rekindle their past relationship. Tony is disappointed but respectful of Jean's wishes.
