Ep 9. Just Desserts / The Big Dig

Arthur season 5 episode 9 is a combination of two fun-filled episodes“Just Desserts” and “The Big Dig”. In the first episode, “Just Desserts”, Arthur’s family goes to eat dinner at a fancy restaurant. Along with them, Buster is also invited. As the waiter brings in the dessert menu, the kids find out that the restaurant has a special award of the best dessert. Excited to try the dessert, everyone places an order. However, when the desserts arrive, no one seems happy with their selections. As the kids trade desserts, they realize that everyone else's desserts look more delicious than their own.

After trying different desserts, they decide to switch plates altogether. When the waiter comes to clear the table, he finds everything in total chaos. However, the kids maintain that they are still enjoying dessert in their own way. Through this episode, we learn a valued lesson of being appreciative and happy with what we have instead of always wanting what someone else has.

In the second episode of Arthur season 5 episode 9, “The Big Drill”, the kids are tasked with the job of creating a time capsule. They learn that the contents which go inside the time capsule should have some significant relevance to the time and must be difficult to find. Arthur and his friends are inspired to take up the challenge and create something unique and memorable that can be put into the time capsule.

The group decides to invent something that will dig really fast and help the future generation uncover all the treasures that lie beneath. They come up with a plan to build a drill that will efficiently remove earth and reach greater depths. While building the drill, they encounter several problems and need to figure out how to overcome them. Along the way, they need to remind themselves to collaborate and work together.

When the drill is finally complete, they take it for a test drive. As they reach a further depth than they anticipated, the drill malfunctions, and they are forced to abandon it. However, they do leave something behind that will be significant for future generations to uncover.

Through both episodes of Arthur season 5 episode 9, we see the themes of teamwork, perseverance and appreciation play out. The children learn valuable lessons of being content with what they have and working together to achieve a common goal. This episode of Arthur is a fun and entertaining watch for children and adults alike.
