Arthur season 13 episode 5 is titled "No Acting Please/Prunella Deegan and the Disappointing Ending." In the first half of the episode, "No Acting Please," the character of Fern seems to be in a bit of a funk. She's feeling down and not herself, and when she tries out for the lead part in the school play, she gets stage fright and feels like she's done terribly. However, her friends try to encourage her and tell her that she's a good actress.
Meanwhile, a new girl named Maria has moved to town, and she's a great actress. She gets the lead part in the school play, but she's not very nice to the other kids in the play. She's bossy and demanding, and even tries to take over Fern's small part. Fern gets upset and decides to quit the play, but her friends try to convince her to stay.
In "Prunella Deegan and the Disappointing Ending," the second half of the episode, Prunella is eagerly awaiting the new book in her favorite series. However, when she finally gets it and reads it, she's disappointed with the ending. She decides to write her own ending, where the characters don't die and everything turns out happy.
Prunella's teacher encourages her to share her new ending with the class, but some of her classmates don't appreciate her changes to the original story. They feel like Prunella shouldn't change the author's vision and that she's being disrespectful. Prunella starts to feel bad, but her teacher helps her to see that it's okay to have her own ideas and opinions, even if they're different from others'.
Overall, "No Acting Please/Prunella Deegan and the Disappointing Ending" features two separate stories about disappointment and perseverance. The characters learn to push through difficult situations and find their own way of doing things.
