Arthur season 10 episode 6 features two distinct storylines. The first, "The Curse of the Grebes," follows Arthur and his friends as they try to break a water fountain curse that's been brought upon them by some pesky birds. Meanwhile, the second storyline, "Arthur Changes Gears," follows Arthur and his friends as they work on a homework assignment that requires them to envision what their lives will be like as adults.
In "The Curse of the Grebes," the students of Lakewood Elementary School are horrified to discover that every time they try to use the school's new water fountain, a pair of grebes fly out and attack them. Unbeknownst to them, the grebes are guarding a nearby nest and are only being territorial in order to protect their eggs. When Arthur and Francine learn the truth, they convince the other students to leave the birds alone and adopt a new water fountain for the time being.
However, the grebes continue attacking the students even after they've moved to a different fountain. Feeling at a loss, Arthur decides to research "grebe behavior," hoping to find a way to peacefully coexist with the birds. Through his research, he comes across a program designed to protect bird habitats and species.
Inspired by this program, the students decide to launch a "Save the Grebes" campaign, raising awareness about the plight of the birds and encouraging others to help protect them. As the campaign gains momentum, the students also come up with a way to protect the grebe nesting area while still allowing everyone to use the water fountain. In the end, the curse of the grebes is lifted, and everyone at Lakewood Elementary learns an important lesson about respecting wildlife.
In "Arthur Changes Gears," Arthur and his friends are assigned a homework project that requires them to think about their future careers and what they might be doing ten years from now. While Arthur and Buster struggle to come up with ideas, Francine is convinced she'll be a superstar soccer player, Binky sees himself as a pro wrestler, and Sue Ellen is determined to be a famous novelist.
As Arthur and Buster continue to grapple with the assignment, they become increasingly discouraged about their ability to choose a career. In an effort to cheer them up, Muffy suggests they take a personality test to help them narrow down their options. However, the results of the test leave Arthur feeling even more uncertain about his future.
Determined to help Arthur and Buster find their callings, Francine convinces them to participate in a career day at the community center. While there, Arthur and Buster explore a wide variety of fields, from medicine to animal care to plumbing. Eventually, Arthur discovers a passion for architecture, and Buster realizes he's always been fascinated by cooking.
In the end, the two friends feel much more confident about their respective futures, and they're excited to see where their passions will take them. The episode concludes with a message encouraging kids to think about their own futures and to never be afraid to try new things.
