D.W. Thinks Big/Arthur Cleans Up is the 25th episode of season 1 of the popular children's television show, Arthur. The episode first aired on PBS Kids on October 28, 1996, and has since become a fan favorite.
In the first half of the episode, titled "D.W. Thinks Big," D.W. is feeling frustrated. She wants to do more grown-up things like her older brother, Arthur, but she feels like no one takes her seriously because she is just a little girl. When she hears that her family is going to visit their grandparents, she sees it as an opportunity to finally prove herself.
D.W. wants to pack her own suitcase for the trip, but instead of packing practical things like clothes and toiletries, she decides to bring all of her toys and stuffed animals along. This causes a problem when they get to their grandparents' house and D.W. has to share a room with Arthur. He is not pleased to find her toys and stuffed animals taking up all the space in their room.
Despite Arthur's annoyance, D.W. is determined to prove that she is a capable and independent person. She tries to help out around the house, but her efforts only make things worse. When she tries to make breakfast for everyone, she accidentally spills the cereal all over the floor. Later, when she volunteers to help with the laundry, she mixes all the colors together and creates a big mess.
By the end of the episode, D.W. realizes that just because she wants to be grown-up doesn't mean she can skip the important steps in between. She learns that it's okay to ask for help and that it's important to be patient with yourself as you learn new things.
The second half of the episode, titled "Arthur Cleans Up," focuses on Arthur and his friends as they participate in a citywide cleanup event. The groups have designated a specific area to clean up, and the winning team will get a prize. Arthur's team is made up of himself, Francine, and Buster.
At the start of the episode, the group seems to be making good progress in cleaning up their designated area. But things take a turn for the worse when they accidentally dump all of the trash bags on the street. The group is mortified, and they fear they won't win the competition.
Determined to make things right, Arthur comes up with a plan to get the trash back into the bags. The group works together and manages to clean up their area. They even help out another group that is struggling with their task. At the end of the day, they find out that they didn't win the prize, but they feel proud of what they accomplished.
Overall, "D.W. Thinks Big/Arthur Cleans Up" is a fun and engaging episode that teaches important lessons about responsibility, patience, and teamwork. It's a great addition to the first season of Arthur and a must-watch for any young fans of the show.
