Around the World in 80 Days is a travel documentary series starring Michael Palin, which originally aired in 1989. The show was produced by Fireworks International, and it follows Michael Palin on an epic adventure as he attempts to circumnavigate the globe in just 80 days, retracing the journey of Phileas Fogg from the famous Jules Verne novel of the same name.

The show is comprised of seven episodes, each approximately 50 minutes long, with each episode covering a different leg of the journey. Each episode is packed with excitement, as Michael faces all sorts of challenges and obstacles as he travels across the world. He meets a variety of fascinating people along the way, and experiences many different cultures and ways of life.

The series begins in London, where Michael sets off on his journey. From there, he travels through France, Italy, Greece, and Turkey, before crossing the Arabian Sea to Oman. He then travels through India, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, and the United States, before returning to London to complete his journey.

Throughout the series, Michael must use a variety of modes of transportation to make his way around the world. He travels by train, boat, plane, car, and even on the back of a camel. Each leg of the journey presents its own set of challenges, and Michael must overcome everything from language barriers to mechanical failures in order to stay on schedule.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the series is seeing the different cultures and lifestyles that Michael encounters along the way. In each country he visits, Michael tries to immerse himself in the local culture, whether that means trying local foods, attending traditional festivals, or meeting with local people to learn about their way of life. The series really captures the sense of adventure and excitement that comes with traveling to new and unfamiliar places.

Another highlight of the series is Michael Palin himself. He is an incredibly charismatic and likable host, and his sense of humor and adventure really shine through in each episode. It's clear that he is genuinely excited about the journey he is undertaking, and his enthusiasm is infectious. Watching Michael interact with the people he meets along the way is always interesting and entertaining, and he does a great job of conveying the sense of wonder and discovery that comes with traveling around the world.

Overall, Around the World in 80 Days is a fantastic travel documentary series that will appeal to anyone with an interest in adventure, travel, or world cultures. Michael Palin's journey around the world is filled with excitement, challenges, and moments of pure wonder, and the series does an excellent job of capturing all of that on film. Even though the series is now over 30 years old, it still holds up as a fascinating and entertaining watch today.
