The episode "Diversity Hire" opens with Sterling Archer and his fellow agents at ISIS receiving an email from their boss Mallory, informing them that they will be hiring a new agent. Mallory specifies that the new hire must be a minority, in order to make ISIS more diverse. Archer responds to this news with his typical lack of sensitivity, making inappropriate jokes about minorities and insisting that ISIS doesn't need diversity.

Despite Archer's protests, the new agent, named Conway Stern, arrives at ISIS the next day. He is a black ops specialist, and immediately earns the respect of Cyril and Lana. Archer, however, is immediately suspicious of him and starts digging into his past. When Conway reveals that he attended Yale, Archer is skeptical and assumes he must have been a diversity hire himself.

The ISIS agents are assigned to test out a new weapon, the Veridian, but Conway is the only one who knows how to properly operate it. The team goes on a mission to train some Afghan rebels to use the Veridian, and finds themselves under attack from a group of insurgents. Conway demonstrates his skills by single-handedly taking out the attackers, earning further respect from Cyril and Lana.

However, Archer remains suspicious of Conway and decides to investigate him further. He goes to the Yale Alumni Association and discovers that Conway did in fact attend Yale, and graduated with a double major in History and Literature. Archer is impressed, but also frustrated that he was wrong about Conway.

Back at ISIS, the team has to defend themselves against an attack from an unknown assailant. Conway is the only one who can identify the attacker, and in the ensuing chaos, he is shot and critically injured. As he is being rushed to the hospital, Conway reveals that he is not actually a black ops specialist, but a CIA agent tasked with infiltrating ISIS to uncover a security leak.

The episode ends with Mallory and the ISIS team learning that the security leak was caused by Cyril, who had accidentally leaked classified information in an email to his girlfriend. Mallory tells Cyril that he will not be fired, but will be demoted to filing duty.

Overall, "Diversity Hire" is an entertaining episode that tackles issues of diversity and the inherent biases that can arise from efforts to be more inclusive. While Archer's initial reactions to the new hire are offensive, the episode ultimately points out the importance of diversity in organizations like ISIS. The twist ending, with Conway being revealed as a CIA agent, adds an extra layer of intrigue to the episode and reminds viewers that the ISIS agents are always on the frontlines of dangerous missions.
