Antiques Road Trip is a popular BBC television show where experts travel around the UK in search of hidden gems that can be sold for profit at an auction. In season 8, episode 1, the show starts with two antique experts, Natasha Raskin Sharp and Raj Bisram, embarking on a journey that takes them from the north of England to the south of Scotland.
The episode begins with the two experts meeting up in Newcastle upon Tyne, where they introduce themselves and talk about the competition. Natasha is confident and enthusiastic, whereas Raj is more laid back and relaxed. They are both given £200 each to spend on antiques, which they hope to sell at auction for a profit.
Their first stop is at Bywell Hall, a stunning Georgian mansion near Newcastle. Here, they meet the owner, Tom, who introduces them to some interesting antiques, including a silver salver and a pair of Georgian candlesticks. Raj is particularly impressed and decides to buy the candlesticks for £75. Natasha, however, is not convinced and opts to move on to their next destination.
The next stop is in Alnwick, where they visit an antiques shop called Barter Books. This shop is famous for being housed in a former railway station and has an enormous range of books on offer. Natasha and Raj scour the shelves in search of hidden gems and find a number of interesting items, including a signed collection of James Bond books and a rare edition of Alice in Wonderland. Both experts leave the shop with armfuls of books, hoping to sell them at a profit.
After leaving Alnwick, the duo heads to Scotland, with their next stop being a small antiques shop in Kelso. Here, they meet the owner, Lorna, who shows them a number of interesting antiques, including a rare Satsuma vase and a 19th century silver tea set. Natasha is keen to buy the vase, but cannot agree with Lorna on the price. Raj, however, strikes a bargain on the tea set, purchasing it for £80.
The next day, Natasha and Raj visit an auction house in Edinburgh to sell some of the items they have collected. Both experts are hopeful of making a profit and are keen to see how the bidding will go. Among the items on offer are Raj's Georgian candlesticks, Natasha's James Bond collection, and the silver tea set they both purchased together. The auction house is packed with bidders, with the experts looking on nervously as their items go under the hammer.
After the auction, the experts head back to the road, with their sights set firmly on the next leg of their journey. What treasures will they find, and will they make a profit? With their £200 budgets and expert knowledge, the sky's the limit. Tune in to the next episode to find out!
