Antiques Road Trip Season 5 Episode 28 takes us on another exciting adventure as experts James Braxton and Raj Bisram set off on a new journey through the picturesque towns and cities of the UK in their hunt for valuable antiques.
In this episode, the rival auctioneers start their journey in the town of Lewes in East Sussex, home to a vibrant antiques scene. They visit a range of shops, markets and dealerships along the way, from antique bookshops to vintage clothing stores, in search of unique items to take to auction.
Their first stop is The Art of Europe, a specialist dealer of antique porcelain and pottery. James and Raj are both keen to find some valuable pieces to add to their collection, and they soon discover some rare 18th century Austrian porcelain figures, which they hope will bring in the big bucks at auction.
Next, they visit the Lewes Antiques Centre, a sprawling emporium filled with all kinds of antiques and collectibles. James and Raj are each given a budget of £200 to spend on an item that they think will make the most profit at auction, and they quickly get to work scouring the shelves for hidden gems.
James sets his sights on a beautiful and intricately designed silver snuff box, while Raj falls in love with a pair of antique candlesticks, complete with ornate and delicate carvings.
But as they make their way to the next destination, a specialist bookshop, they both start to worry that they may have overpaid for their chosen items. They know that in order to make a profit at auction, they need to find buyers who are willing to pay more than they did, and this can often be a difficult task.
At the bookshop, James and Raj are delighted to come across some rare and valuable first edition books, including a signed copy of an early edition of Charles Dickens' 'A Tale of Two Cities'. They are both impressed by the quality and rarity of the find, and decide to pool their resources to try and win the auction when it comes up.
The final stop on their trip is the market town of Hailsham, where they attend an auction to try and sell their items. The tension is high as they watch item after item go up for sale, and they wait nervously for their own lots to come up.
When the silver snuff box is brought to auction, James is thrilled to see that it fetches a high price, making a profit on his investment. However, Raj's candlesticks struggle to find a buyer, and they sell for less than he paid for them, leaving him disappointed and out of pocket.
The auction heats up when the signed Dickens book comes up for sale, and after a tense bidding war, James and Raj are thrilled to win the item, making a huge profit and securing their place as the victors of this episode's Antiques Road Trip.
