Antiques Road Trip is a popular British television series that follows a group of antiques experts as they travel around the UK in search of rare and valuable items to sell at auction. In season 18, episode 21, the experts continue their journey across the south of England, visiting a range of different locations and meeting a variety of interesting people along the way.
The episode begins with Christina Trevanion and Raj Bisram setting off from Bath in a classic red sports car, with Christina behind the wheel. They are both excited for the day ahead, as they are heading to an auction house in Dorset to try and find some hidden gems. Raj is hoping to find some mid-century modern items, while Christina is keen to get her hands on some jewellery.
Their first stop is a local market, where they spot a beautiful silver teapot with an unusual shape. They are both impressed by the quality of the piece, and Raj thinks it could fetch a good price at auction. Christina is more skeptical, but agrees to add it to their collection of items for the day.
Next up is a visit to a local antiques dealer, where they are shown a stunning Art Deco mirror with a distinctive geometric design. Christina is instantly drawn to it, but Raj is wary of its potential value. They decide to take a gamble and buy it anyway, hoping that its unique style will appeal to buyers at the auction.
After a quick lunch break, they head to a stately home in Somerset to meet with the owner, who has been collecting antique furniture for over 30 years. They are given a tour of the house, and Christina is particularly excited to see a rare Louis XIV bureau, which she describes as a "magnificent example of French craftsmanship". Raj is more interested in a set of chairs from the same period, which he thinks could be worth a lot of money.
Their final stop of the day is at a local salvage yard, where they hope to find some interesting architectural elements to sell at auction. They are shown a beautiful stained glass window, which Raj thinks could be sold to a collector, as well as a set of antique brass taps that could be repurposed as decorative items.
With their car full of antiques, Christina and Raj make their way to the auction house in Dorset, where they meet with the auctioneer and show him their finds. The teapot is valued at more than they expected, but the mirror is deemed to be worth less than they hoped. The Louis XIV bureau is estimated to fetch a high price, as is the set of chairs.
As the auction gets underway, Christina and Raj watch nervously as their items are put up for sale. The teapot fetches a good price, but the mirror fails to sell. The Louis XIV bureau and the chairs both generate a lot of interest, and are eventually sold for much more than the experts had expected.
Overall, Christina and Raj are pleased with their day's work, and are excited to continue their journey across the UK in search of more antiques and collectibles. Antiques Road Trip season 18 episode 21 is a great example of the show's blend of entertainment and education, as the experts explore different locations and share their expertise with viewers.
