Antiques Road Trip is a popular BBC show which has been on air since 2010. The show involves two antiques experts, who travel across the UK in classic cars looking for undiscovered treasures. In each episode, the experts visit antique shops, auctions, and other locations, hoping to find valuable items that they can sell at auction. At the end of each episode, the experts take their finds to be appraised, and whoever makes the most profit wins.
Episode 5 of season 15 follows our two antiques experts, James Braxton and Margie Cooper, as they explore the Scottish Highlands in search of antiques. The episode starts with the pair arriving in Inverness, where they begin their journey. Margie is driving a red Morris Minor, while James is in a green Daimler Dart.
Their first stop is The Malt Room in Tain, which is a whisky distillery that has recently started selling antiques. James is immediately drawn to a beautiful silver tea set, while Margie spots a rare book about the history of Tain. They both manage to negotiate a good price and leave the distillery with their purchases.
Next, they head to Gavin Strang Antiques in Beauly, a small town in the Scottish Highlands. Here, they find a variety of items, including an antique table, a rare piece of pottery, and a pair of old silver candlesticks. James and Margie both find something they think can make them a profit, and they leave the shop satisfied with their purchases.
The third stop is Leakey's Bookshop in Inverness, which is one of the largest second-hand bookshops in Scotland. James and Margie are in their element here, surrounded by books, maps, and other rare items. James manages to find a beautiful Art Deco vase, while Margie uncovers an old map of the Scottish Highlands. They both manage to negotiate a good price and leave the bookshop with their newfound treasures.
After leaving the bookshop, they head to the nearby Craig Phads Antique Centre in Drumnadrochit. Here, they find an impressive collection of antiques, including a rare Victorian sewing machine and a large oil painting. James and Margie both manage to find something they think can make them a profit and leave the shop with their purchases.
Their final stop of the day is Castle Gallery in Inverness, an art gallery that specialises in contemporary Scottish art. Here, they find a variety of paintings, sculptures, and other artworks, but both experts are hesitant to make a purchase as contemporary art can be unpredictable at auction.
At the end of the day, James and Margie take their purchases to be appraised by auctioneer Tim Weeks. He values the items and tells the experts how much he thinks they can make at auction.
Will James or Margie come out on top and make the most profit? You'll have to tune in to find out.
