In this episode of Antiques Road Trip season 10, the two experts, Mark Stacey and Christina Trevanion, embark on a journey through the southwest of England in search of antique treasures. Mark, a renowned antiques dealer and auctioneer, and Christina, a prominent auctioneer, valuer, and television presenter, have a budget of £200 each to spend on items they believe will fetch a high price at auction.
The show begins at a market in the picturesque town of Frome, where Mark spots a wooden casket that catches his eye. He believes it could date back to the 17th century and could be worth a handsome sum. Christina, on the other hand, spots a distinctive glass vase that she thinks could be an original piece by noted glassmaker, John Walsh Walsh. The two experts engage in friendly banter as they weigh the pros and cons of each item, before finally deciding to purchase them both.
Their next stop is in the town of Bristol, where they visit a specialist silver dealer. Mark has his eyes on a silver wine jug, which he thinks could be worth a lot of money, while Christina sets her sights on a pair of silver candlesticks. The items are on the pricier side, but the experts are confident that they can make a profit if they manage to secure a good deal.
Their journey continues through the countryside, where they visit a stately home and engage in a fun game of croquet. Mark and Christina also take some time to admire the antique furniture and artwork in the grand house, taking inspiration for their own purchases. Later on, they visit an antique fair, where they each select a variety of smaller items, including a silver snuff box, a pair of porcelain figurines, and a vintage clock.
As the day comes to a close, the two experts make their way to an auction house, where their items will be put up for sale. The auctioneer provides an insight into each item, including its history and potential value, before the bidding begins. Mark and Christina anxiously wait as each item is auctioned off, cheering and consoling each other as the prices rise and fall.
The episode concludes with the final results, revealing which expert made the most profit from their purchases. As always, there are surprises and unexpected twists along the way, making for an entertaining and illuminating episode of Antiques Road Trip.
