Ep 6. Servants' Disease

The episode "Servants' Disease" of Another Period season 2 follows the Bellacourts, a wealthy family living in Newport, Rhode Island, in the early 1900s. The family is preparing for the Newport Friendship Pageant, an event that they are hosting, and which requires a lot of work from their servants. However, many of their servants are falling ill with "servants' disease," a mysterious illness that causes them to cough and sneeze constantly.

As the episode progresses, the Bellacourts attempt to find a cure for the disease. They try everything from giving their servants "medicine" (which turns out to be nothing more than alcohol and laudanum) to hiring a new doctor to treat them. Meanwhile, the servants struggle to keep up with their work despite their illness, as they fear losing their jobs if they take time off to recover.

As the pageant approaches, tensions run high. The Bellacourts are desperate to have their servants healthy in time for the event, but it seems that nothing is working. Even worse, the pageant is in danger of being cancelled altogether due to a conflict between the Bellacourts and their neighboring family, the Vanderbilts.

As the situation becomes more and more dire, the Bellacourts begin to realize the error of their ways. They had been treating their servants poorly, paying them low wages and neglecting their health needs. As a result, the servants had become susceptible to illness and their lack of access to healthcare was only exacerbating the problem.

The Bellacourts finally come up with a plan to make things right. They organize a fundraiser to raise money for a hospital in Newport that will provide healthcare to all of the town's residents, regardless of their social status. This effort is successful, and the hospital is built with the help of the Bellacourts' wealth and the support of the community.

By the end of the episode, the servants' disease has been cured and the pageant goes on as planned. The Bellacourts have learned a valuable lesson about treating their servants with respect and kindness, and the community has benefitted from the creation of a much-needed healthcare facility.
