Another Dirty Room, the show where a dedicated and curious crew travels around the country to unveil the dirtiest hotel rooms, dives in to the Northeast Garden Inn and Colonial Motel in the state of Maryland in season 1 episode 4, titled "Dumps."
The episode opens with the team's leader Dan Bell outlining the condition and rating of the motel rooms' cleanliness. The team dispatches to the first dirty place, Northeast Garden Inn, where they start their search for filth.
Northeast Garden Inn is relatively unkempt and situated in an uninviting area. The motel has a fair share of bad reviews. Upon entering one of the dirty rooms, the team immediately discovers a mattress with a big dent in the middle of the bed, which would make it impossible to get a good night's sleep. The room is filled with yellow lighting, dirt, and a strong cigarette smoke smell that immediately strikes anyone coming in. Gregg Smith, one of the team members, quickly notices the stained and smelly carpet, and as the investigation continues, they find discarded trash and drug paraphernalia hidden inside the furniture.
The team proceeds to another room, which is markedly better in terms of cleanliness, but still subpar. The room has an old and stained bathroom, with no amenities to speak of. Captain and team narrator Rick Serra reveal that the room had only been occupied for one night, which means it wasn't cleaned out after its previous guest left. The team discovers the mattress has been so poorly cleaned that insects, ants, and debris made their way up the bed to the pillows and onto the nightstands.
The team decides to check out of the Northeast Garden Inn and heads to their second destination, Colonial Motel, located a few blocks from where they were. Upon arriving, they're greeted by a charming front desk attendant. Still, the motel interiors are instantly unimpressive, worn, and seem to have been forgotten by time, and the remote location deters any inquiries of good times to be had in the area. The team immediately sees different dumpsters flanking the motel perimeter while they drive up to their dirty room.
The hope for a more pleasant experience is once again extinguished as soon as they walk into their dirty room. The room has an old box-type air conditioning unit, and its dusty vents immediately release the dirt inside the room once turned on. The team immediately discovers a large dent on the bedbase's corner, which forces the bed to be positioned unevenly. They discover half-eaten food in the fridge and more trash under the bed. The team found bloody stains under the chair in the room's corner that raised concerns about who had previously stayed in the room.
As the night falls, the team decides to hit the road and explore the area. In nearby Aberdeen, MD, they happened upon Albie's Beef Inn, a place that's been frozen in time since the 1960s. Despite the discovery, the team realizes that these kinds of places are becoming scarce, with more and more local places being turned into chain stores.
The crew then heads back to the Colonial Motel, where the day's discovery among the trash reveals the presence of more cockroaches. As the crew spends the night in the dirty room, they continuously find more dirt and filth. The crew comments on the possibility of having bedbugs and worry about their safety throughout their stay.
The episode concludes with the team recounting their stay at the Northeast Garden Inn and Colonial Motel. The experience they had on this day was a painful awakening for dealing with such unclean conditions in hospitality. After the stay in both motels, the team ends up rating Northeast Garden Inn one of the worst places that they've ever stayed in, with the Colonial Motel coming close behind. The episode showcases the team's effort to uncover what dirty secrets lurk inside these motels, leaving viewers with an education on what unhealthy conditions hotels may keep.
