When the Codys thought they had caught a break, Smurf's past comes back to haunt the family in the latest episode of Animal Kingdom. In season 4 episode 12, titled "Ghosts," the threat of Smurf's old accomplices puts the entire family in danger, forcing them to confront past mistakes and make difficult decisions.
As the episode opens, we see the Codys regrouping after their recent success in taking down Lucy and securing their drug supply. But it's not long before they realize that their troubles are far from over. Smurf receives a mysterious package in the mail - a video tape of a heist she pulled off years ago with an old associate who has since died. Smurf immediately recognizes the man she robbed: Jed, the head of a powerful crime syndicate and the one person she never wanted to cross.
As Smurf tries to keep the tape a secret from her family, they begin to notice strange things happening around the house: mysterious phone calls, unexplained packages, and even a break-in. The situation escalates quickly, and the Codys must face the possibility that someone is out to get them - someone with connections to Jed and a long-standing grudge against Smurf.
Meanwhile, J struggles to come to terms with his recent actions. He's been struggling with his role in the family business for a while now, but his recent betrayal of Smurf has made things especially difficult. He knows that he can't continue to operate in the shadows, pretending to be a good guy while secretly doing the family's dirty work. But he also knows that he can't simply walk away from the Codys - not without consequences.
In the midst of all this turmoil, Deran and Adrian attempt to move forward with their relationship. But old wounds and unresolved issues threaten to tear them apart. Deran's past as a closeted gay man still weighs heavily on him, and he struggles to come to terms with his feelings for Adrian. Meanwhile, Adrian's own past - as a former addict and thief - comes back to haunt him, as he learns that his old crew is looking for him and wants him back in the game.
As the episode comes to a close, all of these threads converge in a tense and explosive final scene. The Codys are forced to confront their own ghosts - the mistakes they've made and the people they've wronged - as they face off against a powerful enemy. The fate of the family hangs in the balance, and the only certainty is that things will never be the same.
