In Animal Kingdom season 1 episode 5 titled Flesh Is Weak, tensions run high with the Cody clan as Smurf's past resurfaces and with it, a haunting reminder of a tragedy that shook the family years ago. As the matriarch, Smurf, tries to maintain her iron grip on her sons and their criminal enterprise, her mental and emotional state begins to crumble under the weight of the past and present.
Meanwhile, Baz, the eldest son and second-in-command, must balance his loyalty to Smurf and his desire for independence, leading him to question his place within the family. His girlfriend, Catherine, tries to reassure him and support him, but as she gets closer to the family, she begins to realize the dangerous game she's playing.
Deran, the youngest and most reckless son, continues to clash with his brothers and seek out approval from Smurf, leading him to engage in risky and violent behavior. J, the newly initiated cousin, begins to learn the ins and outs of the family business and navigate the complex relationships between his uncles and grandmother.
As the family navigates these conflicts, a new threat emerges in the form of a rival crew, led by charismatic and ruthless criminal, Frankie. With the Cody family's territory and power at stake, they must band together and use all their resources to protect what's theirs.
But with secrets and betrayals lurking around every corner and Smurf's grip on reality slipping, the Cody family finds themselves in a precarious position, leading to a shocking and devastating conclusion in this intense and action-packed episode.
