Ep 8. Habeas Corpses

In Angel season 4 episode 8, named Habeas Corpses, the team at Angel Investigations is faced with a new case. They are hired by a wealthy widow, who is desperate to make contact with her deceased husband. It's a case that Angel initially turns down, as he is skeptical about the existence of ghosts. However, he changes his mind when the client reveals that she has a children's hospital that badly needs funding.

As soon as the team starts the investigation, they discover that they are dealing with something far more sinister than a simple haunting. They come across a secret society that has been stealing corpses and using them for some macabre purpose. The society is led by a man named Archduke Sebassis, a demon with formidable powers. He is also someone who Angel has a history with, and the two of them share a mutual hatred.

In order to infiltrate the secret society, Angel, Cordelia and Gunn pose as rich art collectors, who have a keen interest in purchasing the antique pieces that the society is offering for sale. While they manage to gain access to the society's headquarters, the plan goes awry when Cordelia and Gunn are caught and thrown into a dungeon. Angel barely manages to evade capture and barely escapes with his life.

Wesley, who is working on the case from the office, manages to track down the location of the society's dungeon and sets out to rescue Cordelia and Gunn. Meanwhile, Fred and Lorne are busy trying to identify what exactly the society is using the corpses for. When the team regroups, they discover the horrifying truth that the society has been using the corpses to create a portal to another dimension, from which they hope to summon an all-powerful being.

The team knows that they need to act fast if they want to stop the society from unleashing this being, which would undoubtedly lead to the loss of countless innocent lives. However, they face an uphill battle, as they are severely outnumbered and outmatched. In the final showdown, Angel and Sebassis come face to face. Angel is able to hold his own against the demon's powers and ultimately manages to defeat him.

The episode ends on a somber note, with the team realizing that they were only able to save a handful of corpses, as most of them had already been used in the creation of the portal. They also realize that the society was just one small piece of a larger puzzle, and that there are even more powerful forces at play, which they may soon have to face. The team may have won the battle, but the war is far from over.
