Angel, the vampire with a soul, is back in Los Angeles running the evil fighting agency, Angel Investigations. In "That Vision Thing," the second episode of season 3, the team is dealing with some serious supernatural drama. Angel's precocious teenage son, Connor, has returned to Los Angeles from an alternate dimension, and he's not so happy to see dear old dad. Meanwhile, a powerful demon known as Vocah is on the loose and the gang at Angel Investigations is struggling to find a way to stop him before he unleashes his evil plan.
The episode kicks off with Cordelia receiving a vision from the Powers That Be, the celestial organization that has been sending her visions ever since she became part-demon. This vision is particularly disturbing, as it shows her being skewered by a demon's horn. As always, the gang rushes to figure out what the vision means and how they can stop it from happening. But they're also dealing with the arrival of Connor, who is understandably angry and confused about his new surroundings.
Meanwhile, Vocah is busy making preparations for a sacrificial ritual that will help him summon a powerful demon called Sahjhan. We don't know exactly what Sahjhan wants, but we know that he's bad news. Luckily, Angel and his crew catch wind of what's going on and start tracking down Vocah. They eventually get a lead on him thanks to a visit from Lorne, the green-skinned demon who runs a karaoke bar and has the power to read people's auras and predict their future. (He's also one of the show's most entertaining characters.)
As they pursue Vocah, Angel and the gang come up against some pretty serious obstacles. For one thing, there's the fact that Connor is still adjusting to life in LA and doesn't exactly get along with his father. There's also the fact that Wesley, one of the agency's employees, is dealing with some personal demons (not the kind with horns and fangs). He's been struggling with his role in Angel Investigations since he betrayed Angel at the end of the previous season, and he's not sure if he can ever fully trust himself again.
The episode is action-packed and suspenseful, but what really sets it apart is the way it explores the themes of family and trust. Angel and Connor's reunion is fraught with tension, and it's clear that both of them have a lot of emotional baggage to unpack. At the same time, we see how the rest of the team is struggling to stay together in the face of the various challenges they're facing. At one point, Cordelia even wonders if they might be better off if they all just went their separate ways.
But even in the midst of all this turmoil, the show finds ways to inject humor and heart. There are some genuinely funny moments, like when Lorne gives Wesley a makeshift aura reading and tells him that he's "feeling a little blue" (in every sense of the word). There are also some powerful scenes that remind us why we care so much about these characters. When Angel finally sits down to have a heart-to-heart with Connor, it's a powerful moment that shows us how much they both have lost and how much they still have to gain.
Overall, "That Vision Thing" is a fantastic episode of Angel that manages to balance high stakes action with character development and emotional resonance. Whether you're a fan of the show or just looking for something new to watch, this episode is definitely worth checking out.
