Ep 22. Hop Pop and Lock
- July 3, 2019
In the episode "Hop Pop and Lock" of Amphibia's first season, the young frog Sprig persuades his grandfather Hop Pop to participate in a dance competition. The competition is being held in Wartwood, Amphibia's capital, and the prize money of 500 gold coins would be a substantial win for the struggling family.
Initially, Hop Pop is hesitant to dance in the competition since he doesn't consider himself a good dancer. However, with Sprig's encouragement and the fact that he has suffered a leg injury that doesn't allow him to work in the farm, Hop Pop decides to give it a try.
As the day of the competition approaches, the duo faces some stiff competition, including a pair of snooty contestants who are used to always winning. Meanwhile, Anne and Polly, two human siblings stranded in Amphibia, team up with Toadie, a local toad boy, to try to make some money by creating a lemonade business.
As the competition gets underway, Hop Pop and Sprig's nerves become evident, and their clunky moves are no match for their smooth-talking competitors. However, Anne and Polly's lemonade turns out to be a massive hit, fashionably quenching the thirst of the audience. When the contenders slip up and run out of steam during the competition, Hop Pop and Sprig turn out to be the last ones standing.
When they win the competition, Hop Pop's ego swells, but Sprig reminds him that it was a group effort between them and Anne and Polly to win. In the end, the family gets the much-needed cash, and Hop Pop sees that there are benefits to trying new things proudly.
Overall, "Hop Pop and Lock" is a lighthearted, enjoyable episode that shows the importance of family and teamwork. Like many other episodes in Amphibia, it offers both humor and heart and is a great watch for viewers of all ages.
