Ep 8. High Speed Picking

In this episode of American Pickers season 23, Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz are on high speed picking mode as they cruise through the backroads of Virginia. Their first stop is a huge car museum owned by Jay, an avid collector of vintage muscle cars. The museum is filled with all sorts of classic cars ranging from Ford Mustangs to Chevrolets and Corvettes. The hosts get a chance to marvel at the impressive collection but quickly delve into negotiations with Jay.

Mike is interested in buying a 1960 Cadillac that's on display but quickly realizes that the asking price is way too steep. He tries to negotiate with Jay, but the car enthusiast is unwilling to budge. Frank, on the other hand, is captivated by a vintage motorcycle and strikes a deal with Jay for the bike.

The next stop for the pickers is Jeff's man cave, a retro-themed garage filled with automotive artifacts from the 50s and 60s. Jeff is a collector and dealer of vintage pedal cars, gas pumps, and neon signs, and he has some impressive pieces in his collection. Mike and Frank are immediately drawn to the neon signs and get Jeff to lower his asking price through some smooth negotiating skills.

The pickers also uncover a 1940s pedal car that Jeff had recently acquired but wasn't sure how to fix. Mike offers a solution by bringing in a local restoration expert who works on the car and brings it back to life. In exchange for his services, Mike agrees to split the profits with the restorer.

Mike and Frank's final stop is a farm owned by Danny, a retired collector who has amassed a trove of unique items over the years. Danny's property is littered with old tractors, farming equipment, and vintage signage, and the pickers spend hours combing through the piles of treasures. They find some valuable items, including an original John Deere sign from the 1950s and a rare Farmall H tractor.

After a long day of picking, Mike and Frank sit down with Danny to sift through their finds and negotiate prices. Danny, a seasoned collector, is a tough negotiator, but the hosts use their vast knowledge and experience to strike some great deals.

As always, the episode is filled with interesting history and stories behind the items that the pickers uncover. Mike and Frank's love for vintage Americana shines through as they race against the clock to find the best items and negotiate the best deals.
