American Grit is a competitive reality TV show that aired on FOX from 2016 to 2017. The show is hosted by WWE superstar John Cena and features four military veterans, known as the Cadre, who lead a team of four civilians through a series of physically and mentally challenging obstacles. The goal of the show is to push the contestants to their breaking points and help them discover their inner strength and resilience.
The first season of American Grit premiered on April 14, 2016 and featured 16 contestants divided into teams of four. The Cadre were made up of Marine Gunnery Sergeant Tee Hanible, Army Sergeant Noah Galloway, Navy SEAL Commander Rorke Denver, and Army Ranger Nick Irving. Each week, the teams competed in a variety of challenges, such as carrying heavy logs, navigating obstacle courses, and surviving in the wilderness. The losing team would face an elimination round, where one member would be sent home.
Throughout the season, the contestants faced not only physical challenges but also emotional ones. Many of them had personal stories of hardship and adversity, and the show sought to highlight their struggles and inspire viewers to overcome their own obstacles. The Cadre served as mentors and role models, pushing their teams to never give up and always strive for excellence.
The winner of the first season of American Grit was Tawanda âTeeâ Hanibleâs team member, Clare Painter. Clare, a mother of three from Sparks, Nevada, survived six weeks of grueling challenges to take home the $250,000 prize. She credited her success to the support and encouragement of her teammates and Cadre.
The second season of American Grit aired from June 11 to August 6, 2017 and featured a new set of contestants and Cadre. The Cadre for season two included Marine Gunnery Sergeant and combat veteran Chloe Mondesir, Navy SEAL Master Chief and fitness expert J.M. Smith, Army Ranger and survival expert Grady Powell, and Green Beret and Special Forces sniper Brooke Van Poppelen.
Similar to the first season, season two saw the 17 contestants broken up into teams of four and competing in a variety of physical and mental challenges. The contestants faced obstacles such as carrying heavy sandbags, running obstacle courses, and solving puzzles while dangling off the edge of a tall building. The losing team would again face an elimination round, where one member would be eliminated from the competition.
Despite the change in cast, season two of American Grit continued to emphasize themes of teamwork, perseverance, and inner strength. Contestants such as John Burk, a retired Army veteran who lost over 180 pounds in preparation for the show, and Mark Bouquin, a firefighter who survived a helicopter crash, shared their personal stories of hardship and how they overcame them.
The winner of season two of American Grit was Army veteran and fitness trainer Melanie Mahanna, who won $250,000. Mahanna, who was originally eliminated from the competition in episode two, returned to the show as part of a twist and managed to outlast the other three finalists.
Overall, American Grit is an inspiring and emotional show that showcases the resilience of the human spirit. The contestants and Cadre provide a powerful example of how pushing oneself to their limits can lead to personal growth and triumph over adversity. The challenges are intense and demanding, but the show also emphasizes the importance of teamwork and camaraderie. If you're looking for a show that will motivate and inspire you, American Grit is a great choice.
