In American Greed season 12 episode 16, titled "Just A Dollar And A Scheme//Lousy Landlord," the series delves into two separate cases of greed and fraud.
The first story follows 66-year-old Andrew Bogdanoff who ran a Ponzi scheme, taking advantage of those who trusted him with their life savings. Bogdanoff promised guaranteed returns on investments in his company, Alpha Trade Analytics, but in reality, he was using the money to fund his extravagant lifestyle. With the help of his partner, Thomas Repke, Bogdanoff was able to deceive investors out of $6.3 million. American Greed goes behind the scenes to uncover how Bogdanoff was able to run his scheme for so long and how his investors were able to fight for justice.
The second story centers around a New York City landlord named Joel Miele Sr. Miele owned over 150 properties in Brooklyn, but his tenants soon realized that he was not a fair landlord. He ignored complaints and neglected necessary maintenance on his properties, leading to unsafe and unsanitary living conditions. Miele was collecting rent but not using the money to fix the buildings. In 2019, one of Miele's properties caught fire, killing one tenant and injuring others. American Greed explores the consequences Miele faced and how his tenants came together to take action against him.
These two cases of greed and fraud showcase the devastating effects that can occur when people prioritize their own selfish desires over the well-being of others. American Greed takes a deep dive into the inner workings of these stories to reveal the shocking truths behind them. As always, the show gives viewers an inside look at how law enforcement and victims come together to bring justice to those who have been wronged.
