Ep 1. American Gothic

After the Silver Bell Killer's spree in the 90s, Boston's Hawthorne family has long since moved on from the tragedy that has haunted them. However, when a body is found in the old family estate, it raises suspicion and dredges up deep-seated family secrets.

Mitchell Hawthorne, former mayor of Boston, runs for Senator only for the campaign to be disrupted by the discovery of the corpse of a young woman in the Hawthorne family estate known as the "Madeline". The family immediately begins suspecting each other of the murder due to the atrocious history of their family. The father, Mitchell (Jamey Sheridan), along with his wife Madeline (Virginia Madsen), return home to their family's past while trying to keep the media from spreading news of the corpse with international attention that could potentially disrupt the campaign. Their kids Tess (Megalyn Echikunwoke), Alison (Juliet Rylance), and Cam (Justin Chatwin), all have their secrets, as well as their aunt Tessa (Moriah Shelton). Tess is a a first rising art expert while Alison is a lawyer who believes in sticking only to her beliefs- also known to have played a big role in ending her father’s political career years ago.

Meanwhile, Detective Brady Ross (Elliot Knight) leads the investigation into the murder, pushing the Hawthorne siblings and father into the forefront of the investigation with their seedy past and present issues. As the police search the residence for answers, a blood-covered golf club is found, making the family look suspicious. The detectives begin to investigate everyone in the family since they all have motives for killing. Brady believes that all the suspects in the family have something to hide and he will do everything he can to uncover their dirty secrets.

Amid the investigation, each Hawthorne family member is targeted by a stalker who sends them cryptic messages and prompting them to reveal their secrets or face dire consequences. In the end, the family attempts to band together despite their internal conflicts to protect the one thing they're bound to protect - their family's secrecy.
