In the American Dad Season 4 Episode 11 titled "Live and Let Fry", Stan Smith, the main character of the show brings home a deep fryer he got for free from his CIA friend. Hayley, who is a vegetarian, is a health fanatic and is not a fan of deep-fried food. Hayley tries to convince the family that the deep fryer is not good for them and that they should focus on eating healthier. Hayley gets into an argument with her family over the fryer, and in anger, she sets out on a picket line outside the house.
Meanwhile, Roger, the alien, is equally thrilled about the fryer, and he has a plan to use it to his advantage. Roger sees this fryer as a money-making opportunity, and he convinces Stan to go into business with him. Roger's plan doesn't go as expected, and they are left with loads of unsold fried food. To avoid wasting the food, they donate it to the homeless shelter.
As the story progresses, we see the family's continuous struggle between their love for food and their health concerns. Stan tries to trick his family into eating healthy food, but it fails each time. Hayley picks up on his tricks, and once again, is not amused. The whole family issues come to light as they try to balance deep-fried junk food and a healthier lifestyle.
The episode ends with Steve and his friends dancing at the school competition. Steve, who is leading his group in the competition, falls and sprains his ankle. He can't carry on, but he insists that his friends should continue with the competition. Steve looks at his friends, and for a moment, realizes how much they mean to him and how important it is for him to have a healthy life. Meanwhile, his dad Stan plunges the fryer into the pool in a symbolic act of getting rid of it.
