Ep 7. Surro-Gate

Stan and Francine are watching a news report on a surrogacy house that has been shut down by the government, causing all of the couples who were waiting for a surrogate mother to be left without options. Stan realizes that this may be an opportunity for him and Francine to have another child, as they were unable to have one naturally.

The couple decides to visit the surrogacy house, where they meet a young woman named Joy who agrees to be their surrogate. As they go through the process of selecting the physical traits and personality qualities they want their child to have, Stan becomes increasingly controlling and obsessed with having the perfect baby.

Meanwhile, Roger enlists Steve's help in creating their own surrogate house, where they use a group of homeless women as surrogates. The operation quickly spirals out of control, with Roger and Steve taking advantage of the women and using them for their own gain.

Back at the official surrogacy house, Joy begins to feel uncomfortable with Stan and Francine's controlling behavior and starts to have doubts about going through with the pregnancy. In order to keep her on track, Stan and Francine hire a "pregnancy surrogate" named Kari who takes Joy's place in their daily lives, while Joy is kept in a separate location to continue the pregnancy.

As Stan and Francine focus all of their attention on Kari and their perfect unborn baby, they fail to realize that their relationship with Joy has become strained and she is on the verge of a breakdown. When Joy goes into labor, she tries to escape with the baby, leading to a confrontation between her, Stan, Francine, and Kari. In the end, the family must come to terms with their actions and the consequences of their obsession with having the perfect child.

The episode deals with themes of control, obsession, and the darker sides of the surrogacy industry. It also explores the emotional toll that surrogacy can take on both the surrogate and the biological parents. Through its humorous and satirical lens, American Dad manages to highlight these complex issues in a way that is entertaining, thought-provoking, and ultimately, cathartic.
