42-Year-Old Virgin is the sixth episode of the third season of American Dad. In this episode, Steve, the teenage son of CIA agent Stan Smith, decides that he wants to finally lose his virginity. However, he proves to be quite unlucky in his attempts to do so. Meanwhile, Roger, the alien who lives with the Smith family, gets a job at a car dealership and tries to convince the other employees that he is an ex-convict in an effort to fit in with the tough guys at work.
The episode opens with Steve in class, where he is mocked by his classmates for still being a virgin at the age of sixteen. Determined to change this, he approaches his best friend Toshi for advice on how to meet girls. Toshi suggests that they go to a local dance club, where Steve proceeds to embarrass himself by dancing awkwardly and getting thrown out. Undeterred, he then tries online dating, but the date turns out to be a disaster when the girl turns out to be a dominatrix who wants to spank him.
Meanwhile, Roger, the flamboyant alien who lives with the Smith family, gets a job at a car dealership. He quickly tries to fit in with the macho culture of the workplace by claiming that he was in prison for killing a man with a trident. However, his lies eventually catch up with him, and he is humiliated in front of his colleagues.
Back at home, Steve tries to seek solace from his parents, but Stan and his wife Francine are unhelpful. In fact, Stan seems to be more concerned with competing with Steve over who can give the other a more painful wedgie. Eventually, Steve decides to take matters into his own hands and enrols in a school for pick-up artists. However, he quickly realises that the school is a scam and that he has been duped out of his money.
As the episode comes to a close, Steve is left feeling depressed and hopeless. However, he receives a surprise visit from a girl who had been watching him from the sidelines throughout the episode. She reveals that she has been impressed by his determination and vulnerability, and they have sex for the first time. Steve is ecstatic and grateful, and finally feels like he has achieved the rite of passage that he had been seeking.
Overall, 42-Year-Old Virgin is a hilarious and heartwarming episode of American Dad that deals with themes of insecurity, masculinity, and fitting in. The plotlines involving Steve and Roger are both engaging and entertaining, and the episode is full of memorable one-liners and comedic set-pieces. Fans of the show are sure to love this instalment, which showcases the wit and charm that has made American Dad one of the most beloved and enduring animated sitcoms of the past decade.
