Stan's wife, Francine, has always been one of the kindest people around. However, when she catches the flu and it develops into a severe case of influenza, things start to change. Suddenly, Francine finds herself becoming more and more mean-spirited and brash toward everyone around her. Nobody can figure out what's going on with her, and they begin to worry that she might have some sort of serious health condition.
As Francine becomes increasingly difficult to deal with, Stan takes it upon himself to investigate what's causing her out-of-character behavior. He turns to a variety of experts, including doctors and psychologists, but nobody seems to be able to pinpoint the root cause of Francine's sudden personality shift.
Meanwhile, Steve, Hayley, and Roger attempt to deal with Francine's newfound aggression as best they can. They try to stay out of her way as much as possible, but soon realize that they can't ignore her cruelty forever. They must find a way to confront her and snap her out of the mindless rage that she seems to be trapped in.
As the episode progresses, it becomes clear that Francine is no longer in control of her own actions. Something is manipulating her from the inside, causing her to behave in ways that are completely unlike her usual self. The question is, what could be causing this sudden change in her personality - and is there anything that can be done to reverse it?
Throughout the course of the episode, the Smith family struggles to deal with Francine's bizarre behavior. They try a number of different strategies to help her, from medicating her to physically restraining her. Though some of these tactics appear to have temporary success, it's clear that there's something deeper going on beneath the surface.
Finally, in the final act of the episode, Stan uncovers the truth behind Francine's strange behavior. It turns out that she was unknowingly infected by a rare virus that causes severe aggression and anger. Armed with this knowledge, the family is finally able to find a cure for Francine's illness and restore her to her normal, kind-hearted self.
Overall, "Mean Francine" is an intense and emotionally-charged episode of American Dad! that explores the nature of aggression, illness, and personality. It's a must-see for any fan of the show who wants to delve deeper into the lives and struggles of the Smith family.
