In season 2, episode 6 of American Chopper titled "POW/MIA Bike 2," the Orange County Choppers (OCC) team revisits a project from their early days - a commemorative bike for prisoners of war and those missing in action. The team takes inspiration from a MIA bracelet that their client, Sue Medina, wears in honor of her late brother, who was a POW during the Vietnam War.
The episode opens with the OCC crew meeting with Sue to discuss the specifications for the new bike. They want to create a bike that is a tribute to all the brave men and women who have fought for their country and never returned home. The bike will also be a symbol of hope for the families waiting for their loved ones to come home.
The first step in the build is to create the frame. The team decides to use a softail frame and customizes it to fit the design. They then move on to the engine, which they decide to paint a special color to match the POW/MIA theme. The OCC team also adds a custom exhaust and a fuel tank with a unique design that incorporates the American flag and the POW/MIA logo.
Throughout the episode, there are several challenges that the OCC team faces. For one, they struggle to come up with a design for the front of the bike. After a few attempts, they finally settle on a custom air cleaner cover that is shaped like a dog tag. They also have trouble with the paint job, as the color they chose initially does not match the color of the MIA bracelet that Sue gave them as inspiration. However, they eventually find a solution that works and the paint job turns out beautifully.
One of the most emotional moments of the episode comes towards the end when the OCC team meets with Sue and brings her to see the bike for the first time. She is overwhelmed with emotion at seeing her brother's name engraved on the bike's air cleaner cover. The team also surprises her by presenting her with a replica of the MIA bracelet that she gave them at the beginning of the episode. Sue is touched beyond words and expresses her gratitude to the OCC team for creating such a meaningful tribute to her brother and all the other soldiers who have not made it home.
Overall, season 2, episode 6 of American Chopper is a moving tribute to the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women. The OCC team does an excellent job of creating a beautiful and meaningful bike that honors those who have fought for our freedom. The episode is a testament to the power of craftsmanship and creativity, as well as to the importance of remembering those who have given so much for our country.
