In season 5 episode 15 of Amen, titled "My Fair Homeboy," we see Deacon Frye and the rest of the church members trying to help out a troubled young man named Kevin who has had a tough upbringing and is now struggling to find his place in the world.
Kevin has a criminal record and is having a hard time finding steady employment. He also has a bit of a rough exterior and a tough demeanor, which makes it difficult for people to get close to him or see beyond his tough exterior.
However, Deacon Frye and the other members of the church see potential in Kevin and decide to take him under their wing. They offer him a job at the church and help him to start turning his life around.
As part of his transformation, Kevin begins to soften his demeanor and starts to dress more formally. He even begins to take etiquette lessons from the church's resident etiquette expert, Thelma.
Thelma instructs Kevin on how to properly introduce himself to others, how to shake hands, and even how to use a fork and knife properly. Though Kevin is initially resistant to the lessons, he soon realizes that they are helping him to become more confident and polished.
Meanwhile, Deacon Frye's daughter, Amelia, has fallen in love with Kevin. Though Amelia's parents initially express concern over her dating a former criminal, they soon come around and realize that Kevin is a good person who is trying to turn his life around.
As Kevin continues to make progress, he begins to encounter some resistance from his old friends. They are not used to the new, polished version of Kevin and feel threatened by his transformation.
Things come to a head one day when Kevin's old friend, Darryl, comes to the church and confronts him. Darryl is angry that Kevin is changing and growing distant from their old crew. He accuses Kevin of forgetting where he comes from and abandoning his true self.
In the end, however, Kevin stands up to Darryl and affirms that he is happy with the changes he has made in his life. He realizes that true friends will support him in his journey and that he doesn't need to stay stuck in old habits and patterns to be accepted or valued.
Overall, "My Fair Homeboy" is a heartwarming episode that shows how love and support can help even the most troubled individuals turn their lives around. Through the power of community, Kevin is able to discover his potential and start a new chapter in his life.
