Ep 9. The Troll

In Alone season 8 episode 9, titled "The Troll," the remaining contestants are dealing with less and less daylight as winter sets in. With just a few weeks left to survive in the wilderness, the pressure is mounting.

As the episode begins, the six remaining contestants are scattered across the vast wilderness of Canada's Great Slave Lake. At this point, everyone is extremely isolated with the closest person to them being miles away. Contestants continue to deal with the heavy psychological burden of being alone in the wilderness.

One of the contestants, Mark, has come down with a painful condition in his hands which has left him unable to construct things or perform hunting and gathering tasks. This puts him at a distinct disadvantage, as survival in the wilderness requires constant ingenuity and resourcefulness.

Meanwhile, competitor Keenan is struggling with the freezing temperatures and sickness. His shelter is not adequate as it does not create enough warmth to keep him from shivering. However, he does not want to compromise on his food supply and decides to continue to fish in the icy lake.

While some of the contestants are struggling physically, others are succumbing to the emotional toll of being alone. After spending over two months away from his family and loved ones, Jordan confesses that he is starting to experience home sickness. With his strength dwindling and mind struggling, he wonders if he will survive.

The episode takes a dramatic turn as the contestants must deal with the unpredictability of Mother Nature. During a storm, one of the camps is brutally battered by high winds and heavy rain, causing the shelter to collapse and leaving the contestant exposed to the elements. As the other contestants frantically try to ensure their own safety, they are reminded of the fragile nature of their situation.

As the storm passes, the contestants are presented with a new challenge – a mysterious, unseen force is destroying their food supplies. One contestant believes it could be a bear or other predator, but as they investigate deeper, they begin to uncover clues that point towards a human culprit. As they search for answers, they must also consider the possibility that they are being stalked by someone they cannot see.
