Alone is a reality series that follows 10 contestants who have been dropped into the wilderness to try and survive for as long as possible. Each contestant is isolated from the others and must fend for themselves in a string of remote locations across the Vancouver Island.
Season eight, episode six of Alone is entitled "Smoked." As always, the episode begins with the voice-over explaining the rules of the game and introducing the contestants on this season. In this episode, the remaining contestants are starting to struggle. Some have managed to catch very little food, while others are feeling the strain of living alone in isolation for weeks on end.
The episode starts with the contestants moving around their camps, preparing for another day of survival. Each person attempts to find ways of securing their food supply, with some heading out to fish, while others continue to trap small game or forage for edible plants. Most are running low on energy and morale, and they are forced to push themselves every step of the way.
One of the contestants wakes up to the harrowing realization that their main food supply has been raided by a hungry animal during the night. The shocked contestant is forced to come up with a new plan as they try to conserve what little food they have left. With their eyes set on the prize, the contestants do their best to shake off the frustration and persist in their journey towards the finish line.
Another person is observed to be moving between their different camps to check the traps that they have set up in hopes of catching some kind of wild game. They are in desperate need of finding something to eat so they can continue to survive in the wilds, but there is a greater challenge that they have to deal with.
A few of the contestants are catching more food than they need just for themselves and are forced to come up with new ways of preserving what they have caught so it doesn't end up going to waste. They start to explore smoking tactics that could help them keep the meat edible for weeks.
Through this episode, viewers will see the contestants go through a rollercoaster of emotions, from the initial despair we see at the start when food supplies are running low, to the elation of catching something that can keep them going for at least a few more days. The episode shows the physical and mental anguish that the contestants go through and how they are forced to adapt to survive.
The episode ends in a cliffhanger as we see one of the contestants dealing with a medical emergency, adding to the already challenging conditions of living alone in the wilderness. Overall, "Smoked" will offer ample excitement for fans of the show as they watch the contestants battle it out to see who can last the longest and survive in the wild on their own.
