In the Ally McBeal season 2 episode 10 titled "Making Spirits Bright," the holiday season has arrived in the city, and everyone is in a festive mood. Ally is preoccupied with the arrival of a new associate, Jackson Duper, who is as brilliant as he is egotistical. Ally is hesitant to believe that Jackson could be so great, and fears that he might jeopardize her own career.
Meanwhile, Ling and Cage plan a karaoke party at the bar to celebrate the holidays. The party features a variety of festive songs, as well as an appearance by a famous Italian opera singer. The party is a huge success, and everyone has a great time.
However, as the night wears on, things start to get out of hand. Ling's estranged father shows up unexpectedly, and causes tension between her and Cage. Meanwhile, Ally has a run-in with a former high school classmate who is now a homeless beggar. She realizes that her own life could have turned out very differently if not for her own privilege.
As the party draws to a close, Ally and Jackson find themselves talking about the future, and the potential of their careers. Ally realizes that Jackson may be a genius, but he's also arrogant and lacks compassion. She decides to be honest with him, and he takes her advice to heart.
Finally, the episode ends with the karaoke party attendees singing a sentimental holiday song together. The spirit of the season is in full swing, and everyone is filled with joy and hope for the future.
