As a pioneering animated series for Nickelodeon, All Grown Up expands upon the beloved cast of Rugrats as they navigate their pre-teen years. Following a unique format that blends traditional episodes with mockumentary style segments, the show explores themes of identity, friendship, and the struggles of growing up through the eyes of its charismatic leads.

Season 2, Episode 1, titled "Interview With A Campfire," kicks off with the gang's arrival to summer camp. In a rare departure from the show's usual format, the episode takes the form of a documentary with Angelica Pickles serving as the director. With a handheld camera in tow, Angelica insists on capturing every moment of the group's adventure in the woods.

Along with the usual cast, the episode introduces a new character - a mysterious camper named Kevin. He is guarded and quiet, only speaking when directly addressed by the others. Despite his aloof demeanor, the kids take a liking to him and try to get to know him better.

While exploring the woods, they discover a campfire and decide to set up camp for the night. The fire becomes a natural gathering point, and they sit around it, sharing stories and snacks. A game of "truth or dare" ensues, and Kevin is dared to tell the gang something about himself that they don't already know.

At first, he is hesitant, but as the others encourage him, he begins to open up. He reveals that he has been in and out of foster care for most of his life and has never stayed in one place for more than a year. He tells them that his current foster family is nice but that he still struggles to make connections with people.

Moved by Kevin's vulnerability, the group opens up as well. They share stories of their own struggles and insecurities, proving that everyone has a unique journey. Through this exercise, they bond over their shared experiences of growing up and realizing that they are not alone in their struggles.

As the night winds down, the group starts to pack up when Angelica remembers that she left her camera by the campfire. She goes back to retrieve it but gets lost in the woods. As she tries to find her way back, she hears a voice calling her name. She follows the voice through the trees until she finally finds Kevin.

It turns out that he has a talent for playing the guitar and has been writing his own songs as a way of dealing with his emotions. He offers to play her a song, and she agrees. As he plays and sings, Angelica is moved by the beauty of his music and the depth of his emotions.

Rescued by the authorities, the gang returns to camp and prepares to leave the woods. As they say goodbye to Kevin, who is remaining at the camp for the rest of the summer, they exchange phone numbers and promise to keep in touch. The episode ends with Angelica reflecting on the experience, realizing that there is always something new to learn about others, even if they seem closed off at first.

Overall, "Interview With A Campfire" is a heartwarming episode that showcases the importance of vulnerability, empathy, and human connection. It explores themes of family, identity, and belonging while showcasing the characters' growth and development. The use of a mockumentary format adds an element of freshness and humor to the show while also allowing for a deeper exploration of the characters' inner lives.
