Mrs. Bixby and the Colonel's Coat is the first episode of the sixth season of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. The episode is based on the short story "Mrs. Bixby and the Colonel's Coat" by Roald Dahl.

The episode follows the story of Mrs. Bixby, a woman who is unhappy with her marriage and seeks adventure outside of her boring life. She keeps a secret affair with a man named George, whom she met in a hotel room during one of her travels.

Mrs. Bixby and George have a tradition of exchanging gifts whenever they meet, and this time, George shows up with a gift for her - a coat that belonged to his father, a Colonel which is worth a lot of money. Mrs. Bixby is thrilled with the gift and feels that it is a symbol of the love that they share.

However, Mrs. Bixby's excitement is shortlived when she learns that she will have to pay for the coat before she can take it home. She approaches George with the problem, but he tells her that he can't afford to pay for the coat either. Mrs. Bixby realizes that the only way to get the coat is to sell her husband's stocks and use the money to pay for it.

Mrs. Bixby concocts a plan to extract the money from her husband by telling him that a distant relative has died and left them a large sum of money. Her husband agrees to sell his stocks, and Mrs. Bixby uses the money to pay for the coat.

However, when Mrs. Bixby returns home with the coat, she discovers that her husband has been unfaithful to her as well. Her husband hands her an envelope containing love letters that he had written to another woman. Mrs. Bixby is enraged and decides to get her revenge on her husband.

Using the coat as a pretext, Mrs. Bixby tells her husband that she is going to visit her sick aunt and will be back in a few days. She then packs the coat and leaves the house.

Mrs. Bixby heads to George's hotel room with the coat and tells him that she is leaving her husband and going to live with him. George is surprised but pleased with the news and congratulates her on her newfound freedom.

However, George's excitement is shortlived when Mrs. Bixby tells him that she can't stay with him because she has to return the coat to her husband. Mrs. Bixby tells George that the Colonel's Coat is her husband's lucky charm and that he always wears it when he goes gambling.

Mrs. Bixby returns home and gives the coat to her husband. Her husband is thrilled with the coat and puts it on, ready to leave for the casino. However, as he leaves, Mrs. Bixby tells him that she has to take the coat back because it has a tear in the lining.

Mrs. Bixby leaves the house with the coat and heads back to George's hotel room. Once there, she hands the coat over to George and tells him that she has one more surprise for him. She hands over the love letters that her husband had written to his mistress, and George is delighted.

In the end, Mrs. Bixby heads back home with a sense of satisfaction. She has managed to get her revenge on her husband and has found a way to continue her affair with George. The episode ends with Alfred Hitchcock narrating that "It is said that revenge is sweet, but sometimes the sweetness is in the taste of the pudding".
