A wife named Mary Maloney eagerly awaits her husband Patrick's arrival home from work. When he finally arrives, she notices something is wrong and quickly discovers he intends to leave her. In a fit of rage, Mary strikes Patrick in the head with a frozen leg of lamb, killing him.

Determined to cover up her crime, Mary formulates a plan to conceal the murder weapon and manipulate the evidence. She cooks the lamb and welcomes the investigating officers into her home, offering them a meal including the murder weapon. As the police search for the murder weapon, Mary narrowly avoids detection by offering the officers more food and drinks.

As the investigation continues, a detective named Jack Noonan begins to suspect Mary of the murder. However, Mary manages to keep her composure, appearing caring and distraught, and ultimately succeeds in getting away with the perfect murder.
