In the 15th episode of the second season of Alf, titled "Can I Get a Witness?", the Tanner family finds themselves in a bit of trouble when they witness a crime. While out driving one evening, the Tanners witness a robbery at a convenience store, and are called to testify in court about what they saw. However, their eyewitness accounts are less than reliable, due to the fact that the perpetrator was wearing a ski mask at the time of the crime.

Complicating matters even further is the fact that Alf, the alien who lives with the Tanners, was also in the car at the time of the robbery. While he didn't actually see anything, Alf's habit of making odd noises and spouting nonsense every so often makes him an unreliable witness in the eyes of the court. Despite this, he is called to testify anyway, which leads to a number of humorous mishaps and misunderstandings as he struggles to communicate with the human lawyers and judges.

One of the central conflicts of the episode revolves around the Tanners' reluctance to take the stand and testify in court. While they want to do the right thing and help catch the criminal, they are afraid of being put in harm's way by the perpetrator or his associates. Additionally, they are worried that their testimony will be seen as unreliable or inconclusive, which could lead to the defendant being exonerated and allowed to go free.

Alf's antics during the trial only add to the confusion, as he struggles to make sense of the legal jargon and procedures. At one point, he even attempts to take a plea bargain on behalf of the defendant, thinking that it will result in a lighter sentence. Needless to say, this does not go over well with the judge or the lawyers, and only serves to further complicate matters for the Tanners.

Throughout the episode, there are a number of lighthearted moments that serve to balance out the more serious subject matter. For example, there is a bit of a subplot involving Alf's attempts to build a treehouse in the Tanner's backyard, which leads to a series of comedic mishaps and misunderstandings. Similarly, there are a number of scenes where Alf interacts with the family cat, Lucky, who is understandably wary of the alien's presence in the household.

Ultimately, the Tanners do end up testifying in court, albeit somewhat reluctantly. While their testimony is not as definitive as the prosecution would have liked, it ultimately serves to help convict the perpetrator and bring him to justice. By the end of the episode, the family is understandably relieved to be done with the trial, and Alf is left to ponder the mysteries of the legal system and the peculiarities of human behavior.

Overall, "Can I Get a Witness?" is a fun and entertaining episode of Alf that manages to balance humor and drama in just the right way. While the subject matter is serious, the episode never feels overly heavy-handed or preachy, and there are plenty of laughs to be had along the way. Whether you're a longtime fan of the series or just tuning in for the first time, this episode is sure to leave you entertained and satisfied.
