In season 1, episode 19 of the hit 80s sitcom Alf, entitled "Wild Thing," we see the lovable alien from the planet Melmac get himself into some trouble with his adopted human family, the Tanners.
As the episode begins, we see Alf (voiced by Paul Fusco) obsessively watching TV, when he comes across a nature documentary about an animal called the Black Rhino. Intrigued by the animal's tough exterior and fighting spirit, Alf becomes determined to capture a Black Rhino himself.
Meanwhile, the Tanners are preparing for a backyard barbecue with some neighbors, and are trying to decide whether to invite their eccentric next-door neighbor Raquel Ochmonek (Liz Sheridan). Alf, still focused on capturing the Rhino, convinces the Tanners not to invite Raquel by predicting that she will bring her "big, obnoxious dog" to the event.
Despite the Tanners' attempts to keep Alf away from the party, he eventually sneaks out and embarks on his Rhino-hunting mission. In the process, he encounters the "big, obnoxious dog" that Raquel was supposed to bring, which turns out to be a small Chihuahua named Lucky.
As Alf tries to catch the Rhino and impress his human family with his bravery, Lucky begins to follow him around, causing chaos and confusion at every turn. Along the way, Alf also runs into a group of teenage boys who are out to make trouble, as well as a nosy neighbor who keeps getting in his way.
As the episode progresses, we see Alf's obsession with capturing the Rhino grow more and more out of control. He starts neglecting his duties to the Tanners, and even puts Lucky in danger by dragging him along on his adventure. Eventually, he realizes the error of his ways and returns home, only to find out that Lucky has followed him there and is now lost in the neighborhood.
The rest of the episode revolves around the Tanners and their neighbors searching for Lucky, with Alf feeling guilty and trying to make up for his mistakes. In the end, Lucky is found, and Alf learns an important lesson about the importance of family and the dangers of letting obsession get in the way of relationships.
Overall, "Wild Thing" is a classic episode of Alf that showcases both the character's hilarious antics and his underlying heart. Fans of the show will love seeing Alf's misadventures as he tries to capture the elusive Rhino, and will also appreciate the emotional moments that come later on in the story.
