In the twelfth episode of the first season of "ALF," titled "Oh, Tannerbaum," the Tanner family prepares for Christmas while trying to cope with the alien's presence in their home.
The episode begins with ALF, the furry inhabitant of the Tanner household, stating that he is not familiar with the concept of Christmas. Kate Tanner, the matriarch of the family, decides to take it upon herself to introduce the holiday to ALF.
Kate starts by explaining the meaning of the holiday, which leaves ALF akimbo. When Kate suggests putting up a Christmas tree, ALF volunteers himself to do the job, claiming that he has experience erecting an animatronic tree on his home planet.
The Tanners' neighbor, Mrs. Ochmonek, is curious about what they are up to, so she sneaks into their backyard to catch a glimpse of what is happening. As ALF is setting up the Christmas tree, Mrs. Ochmonek snaps a picture of him, mistaking him for a burglar. She runs back to her house and calls the police.
Sensing the commotion, the family rushes to investigate what is happening in their backyard, only to find the police questioning their extraterrestrial pet. The Tanners manage to convince the officers that ALF is not a thief, but rather their domestic pet, which leads to more questions about ALF's origins.
ALF realizes that Christmas is supposed to be a time of giving, so he decides to make a gift for the Tanners. He creates an intricate puppet show, but nobody seems to appreciate it except for Brian, the youngest Tanner child. Realizing that he is not getting the recognition he deserves, ALF lashes out, destroying the Tanner's Christmas decorations.
Feeling guilty for what he has done, ALF leaves the house in the middle of the night. Kate wakes up to find ALF gone and immediately suspects the worst. The family sets out to find him and end up at a local church that is celebrating Christmas Eve.
ALF, who has taken refuge in the church, overhears the preacher talking about the importance of forgiveness during the holiday season. Realizing that he must apologize for his actions, ALF emerges from his hiding spot and apologizes to the Tanners. The family forgives him, and they spend the rest of Christmas Eve together at the church.
The episode ends with ALF enjoying his first Christmas with his newfound family, and the Tanners embracing him as one of their own.
Overall, the twelfth episode of "ALF" season one, titled "Oh, Tannerbaum," is a heartwarming and funny Christmas-themed episode that teaches the importance of forgiveness and family during the holiday season.
