Alexa & Katie is a comedy series that follows the lives of two best friends, Alexa Mendoza and Katie Cooper, as they navigate high school and deal with Alexa's cancer diagnosis. Season 1 episode 1 is called Bad Hair Day and it sets the stage for the rest of the series.

The next day at school, Alexa decides to go without her wig. She is nervous at first but Katie and Jennifer are supportive and tell her how great she looks. They end up having a great day together and even make a new friend, Dave, who is also in their English class.
The episode ends with Alexa's first chemo treatment. Her family and Katie are there to support her, and she wears a silly hat to make it a little less scary. The episode closes with Alexa saying that she knows it's going to be tough, but she has her friends and family by her side.
