Along the way, he gains a group of allies, including Yurika Kochikaze, a genius scientist who studies akikan and develops specialized equipment to aid Kakeru; Najimi Tenk?ji, a bubbly girl who embodies the spirit of soda; and Budoko, a gothic lolita girl who represents a can of tomato juice.

Together, Kakeru and his allies face off against numerous enemies, each with their own unique abilities and quirks. They also encounter a number of other akikan, some friendly and some hostile, as well as human conspirators who seek to use the akikan for their own purposes.
