Aggretsuko is a Japanese animated series that made its debut on Netflix on April 20, 2018. The show is based on a character from the Japanese company Sanrio, who also created Hello Kitty. The character's full name is Aggressive Retsuko and was first introduced as a mascot for Sanrio's line of stationary, but quickly grew in popularity and was given her own series.

The show follows the daily life of Retsuko, a red panda who works as an accountant in a Japanese trading firm. At the beginning of the series, Retsuko is frustrated with her job and her boss, a chauvinistic and demanding pig named Ton. To blow off steam, Retsuko goes to karaoke bars after work and sings death metal songs about her struggles.

Aggretsuko is a show that portrays the struggles of office employees in Japan. Retsuko is often overworked and underpaid, and the show does a good job of depicting the challenges of being a young, single woman in a male-dominated society. The show tackles issues like sexual harassment, workplace bullying, and the difficulty in finding meaningful relationships in a workaholic society.

Throughout the series, Retsuko befriends Fenneko, a fennec fox who works in the same department, and Haida, a hyena who works in the accounting department. While Fenneko is sharp and witty, often using her tech-savvy skills to gather intel on their coworkers, Haida can be a bit clueless and shy, but is a kind and caring friend to Retsuko.

As the series progresses, Retsuko faces many challenges at work and in personal life, but with the help of her friends, she learns to navigate these obstacles and stays true to herself. One of the strengths of the show is its relatability. Many people can identify with the struggles of working a mundane office job and the desire to find purpose in life.

The animation style of Aggretsuko is adorable and colorful, but don't let this fool you, the show is meant for an older audience due to its mature themes. The voice acting is also superb with the English dub featuring talented actors including Ben Diskin as Haida, Erica Mendez as Retsuko, and G.K. Bowes as Fenneko.

The show has been so successful that it has spawned five seasons so far, with the most recent season airing in June 2021. Each season is relatively short, with ten or so episodes, making it easy to binge-watch the series in one sitting.

In conclusion, Aggretsuko is a charming and relatable show that tackles difficult issues in a fun and creative way. Its lovable characters and light-hearted moments are balanced out with more serious themes such as the difficulties of being a young woman in a male-dominated society. The show is a must-watch for anime and office comedy fans alike.
