Agent X is a thrilling television series that aired on TNT between 2015 and 2016. The show starred Jeff Hephner as John Case, a rogue operative who is summoned by the Vice President of the United States to undertake covert missions in order to protect the country when all other means of security have failed.
Sharon Stone co-stars as Vice President Natalie Maccabee, who becomes the first female Vice President after the death of her husband. She discovers the existence of an agent known as Agent X, who operates under the authority of a little-known constitutional provision allowing for a top-level intelligence agent who takes orders directly from the Vice President. She then recruits John Case, a former Navy SEAL, to carry out her missions of national security.
Throughout the show, John Case operates as an off-the-books and off-the-grid intelligence operative tasked with saving America's day from the most extreme threats. He performs daring missions all around the world, alone or with Natalie's help, following precise and intricate plans. John has a unique set of skills, and he uses those skills to overcome the impossible and save the day. As a result, he is a formidable foe to any enemies who dare to cross him.
In addition to Hephner and Stone, the show features a great cast of co-stars. John Shea plays the role of President Thomas Eckhart, who is manipulated by powerful forces in the government. Meanwhile, Jamey Sheridan portrays FBI Director Edwin Stanton, who tries to keep John in check while also chasing him down.
Gerald McRaney plays the role of Malcolm Miller, a wealthy and powerful businessman who has ties to John's past. He's a dangerous adversary, and John's encounters with him are filled with tension and danger. Mike Colter rounds out the cast as Miles Latham, John's handler, who is West Wing material in his own right. He is the one who provides John with the necessary information to carry out his missions and gives him the necessary backup when he needs it.
Geoffrey Blake plays the role of Gray Lawson, a former CIA agent who has become a traitor and sells information to the highest bidder. He is John's nemesis and is always one step ahead of him. Anton Markov, played by Yaroslav Poverlo, is a Russian diplomat with a hidden agenda, who becomes an essential asset of John.
The show is not only about action and espionage; it also delves into the relationships and personalities of the main characters. It explores the intense bond that evolves between John Case and Natalie Maccabee, who have different views on national security but a shared sense of duty. As the show progresses, Natalie and John's relationship grows stronger, which also leads us to see that John is a patriot who is willing to risk his life for his country.
The show's plotlines vary from week to week, and the pacing is frantic, with the clock constantly ticking down to the deadline for John to complete his mission. The show does rely heavily on its action sequences, which are executed brilliantly, and the suspense is strong throughout. The fight scenes are well-choreographed, and John's fighting skills are out of this world. The show doesn't shy away from violence, but it's never gratuitous, and it's always in service of the plot.
In conclusion, Agent X is a highly enjoyable show that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Jeff Hephner's performance as John Case is fantastic, and he carries the show's action admirably. Sharon Stone's Natalie Maccabee is equally strong, and their partnership is a joy to watch. It's a shame that the show only ran for one season, but fans of action-packed espionage thrillers will not be disappointed by Agent X.
