In Afro Samurai season 1 episode 4, titled "Duel," the focus is once again on the titular character, Afro, as he continues his quest for revenge against the man who killed his father and claimed the number one headband: Justice.
The episode begins with Afro coming across a group of women who are being terrorized by a group of bandits. After dispatching the bandits with ease, Afro is approached by a man named Brother 5, who reveals that he has been sent by Justice to hire Afro to take on an opponent known as Kuma. Kuma is a former warrior who has been enhanced with cybernetic implants and has been killing other fighters in order to obtain the number two headband.
Afro agrees to take on Kuma and sets out to find him. Along the way, he encounters a boy named Kotaro who is being pursued by assassins. Kotaro is carrying a cybernetic teddy bear that contains important information that could lead to the number one headband. After fending off the assassins, Afro takes Kotaro under his wing and the two set off to find Kuma.
When they finally find Kuma, Afro and Kuma engage in a fierce battle. Despite Kuma's cybernetic enhancements and his skill as a warrior, Afro is able to come out on top. However, before Kuma dies, he reveals that he was once a friend of Afro's father and that Justice was responsible for turning him into a killing machine.
With the knowledge that Justice is responsible for Kuma's transformation, Afro and Kotaro set out to confront Justice. Along the way, they encounter a woman named Otsuru who is seeking revenge against Justice for killing her family. Otsuru joins Afro and Kotaro on their journey, and the three of them finally arrive at Justice's headquarters.
The episode ends with Afro, Kotaro, and Otsuru preparing to face Justice and his army of cyborgs in a final showdown.
Overall, "Duel" is a fast-paced and action-packed episode that continues to build upon the world and characters of Afro Samurai. The introduction of Kuma and his backstory adds depth to the series, while the addition of Kotaro and Otsuru helps to flesh out Afro's character and motivations. The episode also sets the stage for the final confrontation between Afro and Justice, which promises to be an epic battle.
