Connie is, however, disappointed to find out that the electric company could not provide her with the Christmas tree lights due to a power shortage in another part of town. The town officials decide to cancel the Christmas Eve service due to the power shortage, thus, ruining the Christmas Eve plans for many families in town.

In the midst of all the chaos, John Whittaker comes up with a plan to surprise the town. He sets up a generator in the town square, and with the help of a local radio station, invites everyone in town to come to the square for a surprise Christmas Eve service. The Jenkins' family, who had been struggling to put up decorations, is invited to decorate the town square Christmas tree with Sarah leading the effort.

As the town gathers in the square, John Whittaker leads a beautiful candlelight service that melts everyone's heart. The Holbrook family surprises Lisa with the electric keyboard they had purchased earlier, and the event concludes with everyone singing Christmas carols and feeling grateful for the goodwill and kindness of their neighbors.
