Horse and Ball / Jelly Beans Have Power is the ninth episode of the tenth and final season of the beloved animated series Adventure Time. As always, the episode manages to combine an offbeat, fun-filled adventure with underlying themes of friendship, identity, and growth.
In Horse and Ball, our heroes Finn and Jake find themselves in an unusual predicament: they are turned into horses by a mysterious magician, and then forced to play a game of horse-ball with their new horse bodies. As they navigate the game, and the strange new world they find themselves in, the two friends are forced to confront their own insecurities and anxieties about their identities and abilities. The episode is full of hilarious antics, as the boys try to navigate the game and prove their worth, while also learning important lessons about friendship, acceptance, and self-confidence.
The second half of the episode, Jelly Beans Have Power, takes on a more serious tone, as we find out that the titular jellybeans have the power to manipulate reality. When one of the beans falls into the hands of a greedy businessman, it becomes clear that the power of the jellybeans must be kept out of the wrong hands. Finn and Jake team up with a group of rebels to take on the businessman and prevent him from using the jellybean to wreak havoc on the world.
As always with Adventure Time, there are hidden meanings and important life lessons woven into the wacky and surreal plot. Jelly Beans Have Power explores themes of power and responsibility, as well as the importance of standing up for what is right. Meanwhile, Horse and Ball reminds us of the importance of self-acceptance and being true to oneself, no matter what body or form that may take.
Overall, Horse and Ball / Jelly Beans Have Power is a fitting addition to the final season of Adventure Time, encapsulating the surreal humor and underlying themes that have made the show so beloved by fans of all ages.
