Adoption Diaries is a reality TV show that premiered on WE tv in 2009 and ran for one season. The series takes an inside look at the adoption process and follows the emotional journeys of families as they pursue adoption. Each episode focuses on a different family and their unique adoption story. Viewers get to witness the struggles and triumphs of adoptive parents as they navigate the complicated and often emotional process of adopting a child. Whether it's dealing with paperwork, legal battles, or the challenges that come with bringing a new child into a family, Adoption Diaries captures the highs and lows of adoption.

In addition to the adoptive parents, the show also features birth parents and children who have been adopted. Through these different perspectives, the show aims to provide a full picture of what adoption looks like on all sides. Viewers get to see the perspective of birth parents who make the heart-wrenching decision to give up their child, as well as the perspective of children who have been adopted and are navigating the complexities of their new family dynamic.

One of the strengths of Adoption Diaries is its focus on the emotional impact of adoption. The show doesn't shy away from the difficult emotions that come with the adoption process, whether it's the fear of rejection from birth parents, the anxiety of waiting to be matched with a child, or the struggle to bond with an adopted child. By showing these emotions in a candid way, the series helps to humanize the adoption process and break down some of the stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding adoption.

Another strength of the show is its educational potential. Adoption Diaries presents a wealth of information about the adoption process, from the legal requirements to the different types of adoption available to prospective parents. By presenting this information in the context of real people going through the process, the show makes it more accessible and relatable to viewers who may be considering adoption themselves.

Adoption Diaries also explores some of the societal issues that can arise around adoption. The show touches on issues like race, class, and privilege and how they can impact the adoption process. It also delves into some of the controversies surrounding adoption, such as the debate over international adoption and its potential to perpetuate a cycle of poverty and exploitation.

Overall, Adoption Diaries is a touching and informative look at the adoption process. The show is well-produced and features a diverse cast of families from different backgrounds and with different adoption stories. Viewers who are interested in adoption, or simply looking for an emotional and educational reality show, will find plenty to love about Adoption Diaries.

Whittney, 28, and Greg Zumdahl, 33, both grew up in rural Illinois, and were high school sweethearts. Whittney is a physical therapist and Greg works in insurance, and they both run a farm of their own. The Zumdahls knew right away they wanted lots of children, but after four miscarriages, Whittney saw a specialist who told her that she had an auto immune condition that results in her body rejecting a pregnancy. Whittney and Greg's pastor had adopted a child through the Independent Adoption Center, and he recommended that they look into it as well. After several months of waiting for a birthmom to pick them, they received a phone call from Kolene Zittel, 26, a pregnant young woman from Omak, Washington. Kolene is responsible, educated and has a good job as an X-Ray technician, but she isn't ready to be a mom. Kolene herself was adopted and had an understanding that the decision to make an adoption plan stems from a place of selfless love. Although she is grateful for her birthmother's choice, she wished that she knew more about the circumstances surrounding her adoption. Thus, she knew that if she were to make an adoption plan, openness was going to be an essential component. The Zumdahls and Kolene built an amazing connection planned to all be together in Washington for the birth.
